Chamonix bars and restaurants

There are hundreds of bars and restaurants in Chamonix with new places popping up every week. Most are of very good quality and we could write pages of recommendations. Here are a few of our favourites.....

BARS

Legendary après ski bar Chambre Neuf. Go straight from the slopes in all your gear, prop the skis outside, get a pitcher and dance on the tables! Live band ‘no limits’ throughout the winter when the place is rocking! 272 Avenue Michel Croz. +33 4 50 53 00 31

Elevation 1904: Bar / restaurant opposite Chambre Neuf and starting to rival the place in terms of atmosphere. One of the places to seen in either Winter or Summer. Lots of outdoor seating to catch the afternoon/evening sun. Just opposite the train station. 259 Avenue Michel Croz.

Le Pub: Traditional English style pub which shows all the football on a big screen. Local beers and ales on tap. House champagne 6 euro a glass! Situated on the main pedestrianised street in the centre of town. 215 Rue de Docteur Paccard.

La Folie Douce: The newest offering to come to Chamonix from the legendary après-ski chain. The Folie Douce has taken over the previous Club Med Hotel in the centre of town (just near the Mummery – The Mulet free bus stops nearby). Après-ski party runs every day from 4-8pm with an mix of funky and energizing tunes. www.foliedoucehotels.com 191 Avenue du Savoy, +33 4 50 55 10 00

La Fabrica: Small bar in central Chamonix. Outdoor seating (with rugs!) only in Pedestrianised area opposite Post Office. Good happy hour deals. Also serves delicious homemade focaccia and crepes / special house ‘Pizza Gallettes’ – a hit with our kids! 21 Place Balmat.

Big Mountain Brewery: Locally brewed beer in this new addition to the Chamonix hospitality scene. Half price pizzas on Tuesdays.  73 Avenue Ravanel Le Rouge

RESTAURANTS

Hameau Albert premier

Eat at a 2 Michelin ** restaurant and push the boat out. Great for special occasions.

Amazing food and amazing service. The set lunch is highly recommended. Walk out of town towards Argentiere, the restaurant is in a complex with another Savoyard restaurant, hotel bar and spa on the right hand side, opposite the sports complex.

Check their website for details but they often run a spa day where you can access the hotel spa in the morning (Jacuzzi, small swimming pool and sauna etc) and then enjoy a 4 course lunch with wine pairings for around 100 euro pp.

38 Route du Bouchet. Booking advised: (they speak English!) +33 4 50 53 05 09

Microbrasserie de Chamonix

OK, so we keep going on about this, but we love it!!! Great beer, obviously, brewed on the premises.

The burgers are out of this world!! Also, half price chicken wings on a Monday night.

Walk out of Chamonix towards Argentiere, past the Albert Premier. The 'MBC' is on the right opposite the ice rink. In high season it gets busy, call in advance to book a table (they speak English….most of the waiting staff are Canadians and Aussies)

350 Route du Bouchet, +33 4 50 53 61 59

Satsuki

A Japanese restaurant with good fresh food, a good alternative to endless Fondues

288 Rue Joseph Vallot - on The Mummery corner +33 4 50 53 21 99

Munchie

Munchie......yummy more like!!! Despite the name resembling a cheap take out, Munchie has, in our opinion THE BEST food in Chamonix. In fact, the Tiger Prawn Sushi is the best we've ever eaten. The duck for main is also very much recommended. This place gets busy so we recommend booking as soon as you arrive. They usually do 2 sittings at 7pm and 9.30pm. Cheap house wine to wash down the pan-asian cuisine.

+33 4 50 53 45 41, 87 Rue Des Moulins (the little pedestrianised street by the river in the centre of town, opposite the Cap Horn restaurant and a couple of doors down from Bar'd up)

Le Monchu

A traditional Savoyard restaurant in the centre of town. The place to go for authentic Fondue, Raclette and Tartiflette. Really charming restaurant decked out in traditional wood/alpine décor. Make sure you are VERY hungry before you go….the portions are huge! Another popular restaurant so bookings in advance recommended in high season.

1 Rue de Lyret +33 4 50 53 04 80

Chez Constant

Traditional French Restaurant on the main pedestrianized street with outdoor seating looking over the Mont Blanc Range. Good value set lunch (check website but at time of writing 25 euro for 3 courses Mon-Thurs) and children’s’ menu.

24 Avenue Ravanel le Rouge. +33 4 50 53 96 74

Bar Restaurant Les Planards (Le spot plage les planards)

Walk down the path opposite the apartments towards the Montenvers train. Walk across the road and up the hill to Planards. At the top is a ski area but also a little kids amusement park and Luge etc. The restaurant at the top is a traditional Saviyard restaurant but is a real sun trap with plentiful outdor seating and beautiful views of Mont Blanc. The best reason to go is that the kids can run wild (there are no cars and lots of things to do!) whilst you sit back and enjoy a coffee / lunch / glass of Apremont! 351 Chemin du Pied du Grepon.

L’Hydromel

New restaurant in Central Chamonix with tons of outdoor and indoor seating and amazing burgers (amongst many other menu items). Good for families and large groups. 25 Avenue Ravanel le Rouge.

Chez Yang

Nice Chinese Restaurant in Central Chamonix with views over the river. Good value set lunch weekdays. 17 Rue du Dr Paccard.

La Telecabine

Upmarket restaurant with fabulous food and lovely décor. In Michelin guide. Perfect for special occasions and only a short walk from our place. 27 Rue de la Tour.
